The GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) and The GW Transplant Institute work collaborate on research and outreach endeavors. The enduring mission of SMHS is to address health care disparities in the District of Columbia, and the GW Transplant Institute is also committed to this. The GW Transplant Institute has applied for federal grant support to further its mission of improving the state of care for patients with kidney disease.
Transplant Support Groups
The support group offers educational sessions for patients waiting for a transplant and offers a place for patients to discuss any concerns. Post-transplant patients may be available to answer questions regarding quality of life after a transplant to help dispel myths.
